After graduating with a B.S. in Mathematics from Fairfield University in 1979, Stephen Motta worked as a computer programmer for 20 years at IBM. He then retired from IBM and enrolled in law school, earning a JD from North Carolina Central School of Law in 2002.
Mr. Motta has extensive experience in court, as he has worked for over eight years as a prosecutor in Moore, Randolph, and Montgomery counties (from 2002-2005), and Orange and Chatham counties (from 2005-2010) . He has tried hundreds of cases in both District and Superior courts, with cases ranging from larceny, DWI, assaults, all the way to drug trafficking. For the past two years he has worked as a defense attorney, successfully defending clients in trials for DWI and in a jury trial for sexual battery, among others.
He has experience in dealing with clients with personal injury cases. Further, Mr. Motta has experience with immigration issues, as he has successfully obtained immigration bonds for scores of clients detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (“ICE”).

Mr. Muñoz came to the United States after graduating from Universidad de Las Americas in Puebla, Mexico which is a prestigious institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) since 1959. Mr. Muñoz obtained a Bachelor of Science in International Relations, writing a dissertation on the automobile industry and its focus on international trade.
Once in the United States, Mr. Muñoz attended Appalachian State University where he became licensed to teach in the State of North Carolina. Mr. Munoz was employed by the State for 9 years as a teacher in several schools in the mountains and in Durham, NC.
In 1999, Mr. Muñoz attended North Carolina Central University School of Law where he earned a Juris Doctorate. Mr. Muñoz then began working in the field of law for the law firm of Roberti, Wittenberg, Laufer and Wicker, PA. where he was an associate attorney since 2004 in the area of Criminal Law. His court experience ranges from cases involving driving while impaired, assaults, sexual assaults, battery, fraud, identity theft, and various cases of immigrants detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
In 2010, Mr. Muñoz became a Partner for the Firm of Motta & Muñoz, PLLC. Mr. Muñoz has continued to practice in the areas of Criminal and Immigration law.
Mr. Muñoz is a former president of the Hispanic Law Student Association, was a member of the Christian Legal Society, and is a member of the American Bar Association. He has been a professional speaker for the Continuing Legal Education of Attorneys at NCCU in the Issues of Immigration and Criminal Law and was a member of the Board of Directors of EL Centro Hispano.
Mr Muñoz has been Counsel for the Honorable Consulate of Mexico for the last 8 years. Mr. Munoz volunteers to help the Hispanic Community in various formats such as El Centro Legal Clinic, Mexican Consulate legal clinic and the community abroad with organizations such as Legal Aid for NC, Child Advocacy of Durham and the North Carolina Bar Association Clinics.
